What this class covers

Security teams increasingly need to know what attackers are saying, selling, and leaking about their organizations, but much of what is written about the dark web is sensational or unsafe. This course explains how professional defenders actually approach dark web threat intelligence: with clear requirements, legal guardrails, trusted sources, and a focus on turning findings into concrete protective actions.

Over sixteen lessons you will learn the intelligence cycle, how Tor and hidden services work conceptually, how the cybercrime economy is organized, and how to respond to ransomware leak listings, stolen credentials, phishing kits, and data breaches. You will practice validating claims, operationalizing indicators of compromise, and writing reports executives will read.

The course is designed for SOC analysts, IT administrators, security managers, and career changers with basic security knowledge. It is strictly defensive: you will never be asked to visit criminal sites, buy data, or interact with threat actors. Every lesson ends with a safe, legal exercise you can complete with free, public resources.

What you'll make

Design a small threat intelligence program for a real or fictional company that has no dedicated intel team. Your plan should be practical, legal, and realistic for one part-time analyst.

  • Write five to ten prioritized intelligence requirements with named stakeholders.
  • Draft one-page rules of engagement reviewed against the legal lesson.
  • Build a source register of at least eight legitimate sources mapped to requirements.
  • Write one complete response playbook, such as exposed employee credentials.
